The landscape of Peru is on of the most extreme in the world… going from rainforest to high mountains to arid desert. It’s the Andes slicing down the middle of Peru that cause the striking changes. And, it’s the collision of two major techtonic plates that have made the mountains. Because of this, earthquakes are nothing new to the people of Peru. Peru, and specifically Lima, is a major disaster waiting to happen. A major earthquake in the right place… devastating. Yesterday evening they experienced a big one.

According to reports an earthquake measuring a magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale struck offshore in the South of Peru yesterday evening. I’m sure the numbers are still developing, but for now they are saying that at least 337 lives have been lost and thousands have been injured. Our hearts go out to all of those that are hurting. I don’t know how we or you can help right now… but please join us in lifting up the people of Peru in prayer as they struggle to make sense of the pain and destruction.
