Peru’s history reaches far back, several millennia before the birth of Jesus. It consists of numerous civilizations, kingdoms, and empires before the Spanish conquest. When the Spaniards came in 1532, led by Francisco Pizarro, the Incan Empire had established firm control over almost all of modern-day Perú. Then, after nearly 300 years of control by the Spanish crown, all of the Spanish-speaking countries of South America were liberated through the combined efforts of the Generals Simón Bolivar and José de San Martín. So it is that 188 years after Peru’s independence from Spain was declared, our new home celebrated its independence day on July 28th. ¡Felices Fiestas Patrias!
