About Our Team
The formation of our team was completed in August of 2006. The dream of this team began several years ago, however. God has showered us with His love and called each of us to this ministry in unique and personal ways. We are both thrilled and honored to be a part of this team that He has brought together to carry out the mission of Matthew 28:19 to the city of Lima, Peru!
We will begin a year of training in the fall of 2007, and our goal is to be on the field by September of 2008. Our commitment is to have a team presence in Lima for at least 10 years, and our individual family goals are a commitment of five years. We will train under the leadership of Halbert Institute for Missions, and our entire year of training will be funded by the A&M Church of Christ. We have been so blessed by this body of believers in many ways. Besides the fact that they funded the survey trip our team took to Lima at the beginning of August (2006), many of us have a special connection to and love for the members of this church family.
The 10 day survey trip was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the city of Lima, what it will be like to live there, about the people and culture, and to spend some time dreaming together as a team. You may be asking, “Why Lima?” When John Mark Davidson and Mark Clancy started talking about the formation of a team they were both drawn to South America. Through the guidance and leadership of Dr. Gary Green, Coordinator of South American Missions at Abilene Christian University, we have been led to Peru’s capital. With over 8 million residents, Lima is home to nearly one-third of all Peruvians. When meeting with different church leaders in Lima it became clear that there is an obvious spiritual hunger among the people. They are searching for something more and have had great receptivity to hear the message of how God is pursuing a personal relationship with them.
Another question we often get is, “Do you speak Spanish?” Currently, one of our members, Lee Fletcher, is fluent in Spanish. The rest of us have some studying to do. As part of our training we will go to a language school and participate in what is called “language immersion training.” We also frequently get questions concerning our fundraising. We have started this journey and the need is certainly great. We will continue to update our website as our fundraising progresses. If you are interested in finding out more or would like to support us in this way, then please email us by going to our contact page. We also have a Prayer Warrior Team that receives an email update from our team with prayer request, so if you would like to join us in prayer, then please click here. One last thing. You also have the option of subscribing to our website so that you can know when we post updates. To find out more about this option please click here.
The Fall of 2008 will be here before we know it! We are so excited and thankful to serve a loving, merciful, and holy God.
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.
